How to Support Your Local Creatives, Businesses, and People

Updated: Apr 10, 2020

There has been a rising tension in the air, anxiety is escalating, people are confused on what to do, how to act. I have felt the slow creep of anxiety trying to take over, I keep pushing it away in an attempt to handle things and stay strong, but sometimes it is just hard. We are dealing with something completely new and aren't sure how to handle it. But we have to support each other in the best ways we can right now, in the safest ways we can right now. So don't forget to reach out to loved ones over the phone, internet, and just check in. Keep searching for ways to support local and help our businesses stay afloat in these rough waters. We all need a little humanity right now.

Keep scrolling to see all the different businesses you can help right now and how!

OTHER LOCAL BUSINESSES

AND HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THEM

Help us feed healthcare workers and support local restaurants at the same time! DONATE TODAY! Front-line healthcare workers at Mercy Regional Medical Center and across La Plata County are gearing up for the battle against COVID-19. At the same time, local independent restaurants, one of the core elements that makes this community so amazing to live in and visit, are suffering from the devastating economic impact of the virus. Is it possible to help both at the same time? Yes, there’s a way and you can help! We're bringing the Durango community together to help support both front-line health workers and local independent restaurants. We are implementing a program created by one of the country’s foremost chefs and restaurateurs that lets the community donate meals from local restaurants to healthcare workers on the front-lines. Healthcare workers get a nourishing meal, and local restaurants get badly needed business to keep running and keep staff employed. Other places to help with donations!

  • The VFW is still trying to get their remodel finished. Their fundraisers are stopped. But they have a GoFundMe.

  • iAm Music has started a Four Corners Performing Artist Relief fund you could donate to to support local musicians and performers. All money raised will be allocated to qualifying musicians/bands operating within a 100 mile radius of Durango based on overall financial losses from cancelled gigs and events. Funds will be disbursed according to individual level of need as determined by an online application. Reach out to your musician friends in this time of need, and please share this information as well so we can help our local music community thrive through all of this.

  • Merely Players and the Durango Arts Center had to cancel their shows. Our arts community in Durango is so important! Consider donating to help keep our performing arts alive and well so we can enjoy them when this is all over. Support the Arts Center and Support Merely Players.
